Change of fallback for Devanagari script variant of [[Portal:Gom-latn|Konkani (Goan)]] to Latin script

I guess that you mean that you can only set a language that is completely translated as a fallback language, right? So I'll come back when gom-latn is completely translated.

Thanks,

Not quite. The system works like this:

  • a language is enabled for translation at translatewiki.net
  • when the most often used messages are all done, a 'Messages.php' file for that language is created at Mediawiki.org and all translations from then on are exported to MediaWiki. The language is than a MediaWiki language; it appears in the drop-down lists of optional languages at Mediawiki.
  • only when a messages.php file exists on MediaWiki can a fallback be set to that language.

Hi, I am pleased to report that all the MediaWiki (most used) messages in gom-latn are now translated :)

Please could you create the 'Messages.php' file at Mediawiki.org so that Konkani can be added to MediaWiki? Or do I need to place a request elsewhere?

Once that is done, please could you set the fallback for gom-deva to gom-latn?

Thanks a lot to both of you for your help.

Special thanks to you, Siebrand for your tireless efforts. Your suggestion for using helper languages was extremely helpful.

Cheers,

I'm still unable to use Konkani as the interface language in MediaWiki on sites like Incubator and TranslateWiki. Any idea when Konkani will be included? Is something holding up the process?

This is a good question. Gom is not on the list of Message.php files. I believe that the export to MediaWiki should start to happen automatically after crossing the threshold, next time an export happens, usually every day or so. Has the export threshold grown?

While you are waiting for a developer to look at this problem, try translating about 10 more messages in the core messages. That will take you from 17.77% completion for core messages to 18% completion, which is the official threshold. If that fixes the problem we can amend the advice given slightly.

Translated 12 messages, core messages are now at 18%. Could it have anything to do with gom not falling back to gom-latn or that gom-deva is set as the primary script? Are the main language codes automatically linked to the script codes? Thanks.
