Translating the 500 most used messages into Kabiyè
I am working on the Kabiyè (kbp) Wikipedia which is currently in the incubator. Apparently I need to translate the 500 most used messages before it will get moved to the real Wikipedia platform. But I'm not sure how to use this page. We need to use a French list. Where do I post the translations? When I try to choose "translate Kabiyè" in the top RH corner it doesn't let me. I also tried to export the list to work on it offline, but that didn't work either. We can work on this as soon as we know how. Any advice welcome. Gnangbade (talk) 18:49, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
That language is not yet enabled. Please see https://translatewiki.net/wiki/FAQ#How_to_add_a_new_language and the links there for information that is needed for us to enable a language.
Hi thanks for your quick reply. Here's the requested information for starting a new localization project for Kabɩyɛ:
1. A language code from ISO 639-3 or the Ethnologue website (for example 'de') = kbp 2. The language name in English and in its own language (for example 'German – Deutsch (de)') = 'Kabye - Kabɩyɛ' (not sure what the equivalent of the German 'de' would be for Kabiye. Please note also that the name of the language is incorrect in the English Wikipedia. It should be 'Kabiye' (en) and 'Kabiyè' (fr). I have tried to request a change for this in the English Wikipedia but never got a reply. 3. Is the language RTL or LTR (written from right to left or left to right) = LTR 4. If the language is commonly written in more than one script, please say in which script the language should be enabled. Other variants can be enabled as and when translators for those variants volunteer. = Modified Roman script 5. (For MediaWiki) Should the language fall back to another language other than English? If so which? = French. We will translate the 500 most used messages from French to English
I have also created a Kabɩyɛ portal at https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Portal:Kbp
My colleague, who is an L1 speaker is going to translate the messages, but he's away right now. He'll be back Tuesday, then I hope we can get started on this straight away. Gnangbade (talk) 07:16, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
In the above message, I've given the requested information, and I have also requested translator rights. But apparently Kabiye is still not enabled, because it does not appear in the dropdown list of languages. Since we want to start work on this straight away, we have downloaded the list to work on it offline. Please can you tell me what to do next?
Does Translating:Offline help?
No, not really, because we don't _want_ to translate offline, we're only doing it that way because we don't know how to translate online. From the message above, I understand that I have translator rights, so that's a step forward, but there's still no 'kabiyè kbp' in the drop-down menu. We've translated 120 message so far, but please can you tell us what to do with them now?
