Translations for sr that recently appeared

I am unsure who was busy translating mw recently, but some of the translations that recently popped up are really intolerably bad. For example, pixel has been named as pointlet, or simple 'send' for an image has been named 'deploy'. Ever so named 'main page' has became 'front page' making the real main page inaccessible in commons for those who set 'sr' as their language. etc.

What are chances to roll back to some of previous versions of sr translation?

The third link in the sidebar brings your list of recent changes in your language. Please try to resolve the issue by talking first.

Honestly, i feel disoriented in the new design which is the prime reason why my activity here never restored.

To the issue, I have no time to do research to find out who particularly made these problematic translations or to talk with users I do not know. I brought this to attention here. In the worst case, the rest will happen when feedback from MediaWiki ns on sr.wp returns here.

New design of what? Main page? Skin? Sidebar?

You only need to go the the link I mentioned and you will see that all recent translations are made by one user, Rancher.

There is not much we non-native speakers can do, unless you can show that the translations are vandalized. If the user acts in good faith, he needs training, not a block.

Don't rush, nobody mentioned block. In fact, I mentioned rollback as a solution. I'll repeat I am not sure who is the author of questionable translations and Rancher is not from sr.wp. He's got to know some English = you also can talk with him.

My second proposal is to import all MediaWiki: edits from sr.wp made since 01.01.2011. I guess not all of new edits are very bad. It is more accurate to say that the bad edits this parson made have very big impact on sensitive places.

As for the accessibility, I am not fond of any changes done here since I came. Yesterday I was even unable to reach sr Portal and sr Language stats which topped it. Very glad to see them back today.

I think you are overreacting. Do you even know how many misspellings, bad verb forms, badly placed punctuation marks and translated terms were there five days ago? I edited and fixed many strings, also using a proper plural and gender patterns on this site. I also used a book from Mikro knjiga called Rečnik kompjuterskih termina.
You think everything's bad just because you noticed three examples you personally don't like? That's wrong. I gave you arguments in the last message.
If you are that unsatisfied with the current translation, you can always change it on Wikipedia here.

Rancher15:36, 7 January 2011

I think you are overreacting. I have underlined that not all is bad. Use better reading or at least put tl;dr, so that ppl can know what is the source of your confusion. And I did not estimate how much punctation mars were badly placed five days ago so please state it for the records.

Hello, Mihajlo,
I am the one who did those changes and the only active Serbian user here. I am sorry you are not pleased with my translations, but that is your subjective opinion, I must say.
Pixels are actually a group of points: In digital imaging, a pixel (or picture element) is a single point in a raster image. I do not see anything wrong with my translation. Most of you computer experts will probably use a term piksel because of the influence of English language, but that really is not translating, it is just a transcription of an English word. Why should we use that when we have an appropriate word in Serbian? I will never get this.
As for the second example, did you mean upload? That doesn't really have the same meaning as send, maybe similar, but not the same. You can send a letter, an e-mail to a friend, but you can upload a file, an image to a server. Отпреми is therefor a better solution than пошаљи, but both can be accepted, though пошаљи has several other meanings.
Concerning main page, I am sorry for that. I was already informed about it by the user Саша Стефановић who was supportive, so I will be more careful when translating page titles next time.

I too work in languages where the number of translators working at translatewiki.net at any one time is usually only 1 or 2. In order to come to a consensus on matters of translation style and to develop a consistent vocabulary, I find that the best place for discussion is on the Wikipedia of that language.

I have also started to put notes on translation style, etc on to the language portal talk page and portal sub-pages. Some languages have developed glossaries of Mediawiki terms on translatewiki.net. Again, you could choose to develop a glossary of terms on Wikipedia, where you have more contributors to help out than here at translatewiki.net. See also FAQ.

You are trying to make this personal. Come over to sr.wp and you'll see that more than a few users are complaining about your translations. Concerning that, it is safe to say that I was presenting general opinion of the community toward your translations. Like I said, not all of that was bad, but those who were bad were highly noticeable. I am sorry if you have taken that one personally, but the point is the same as of Sasha's who came after I noted somebody should talk with you.

As for discussion on (in)validity of using anglicisms, I am inviting you to come to sr.wp, express your ideas and see what kinds of arguments you'll face. Note that the last source you provided even does not forbid the term piksel. There is no point in changing well established and valid translations.
