Changes to Special:SupportedLanguages
I've added some tag-clouding like features to Special:SupportedLanguages. This is how to read it:
- Bigger font size == more edits (logarithmic scale)
- Greener color == more recent last edit (cut-off point at 180 days)
There are few names which are crossed off. This means that users by that name doesn't not exists. They are most likely renamed users. Can you help to update those names?
Comments are welcome too, as always.
My first thought was: my eyes hurt. My second thought was: cool. It makes the page more interesting for the general visitor. I like that you can tell at a glance whether a user is active or not. The collection of language names of different sizes also looks nice except that you now have to scroll down a long way to get to the list.
The links from the language names at the top don't always work - are these for languages without translators?

The only striked user I checked was indeed a renamed user. Sadly portals are not always updated (the Italian one was especially crappy).
There are 10 crossed-off users on SupportedLanguages who all have translator rights and none of them are blocked. Maybe a few bugs in the script? They are:

I have drafted a new introduction to the SupportedLanguages page, following the changes to it. This is it (ready for improvement):
This page displays a list of all languages supported by translatewiki.net, together with the names of the translators working on that language. A translator's name appears larger, the more edits the translator has contributed. The colour of an underline indicates how recently a translator has been active here, changing from red (last edit more than 180 days ago) to green (more recent). Click or hover on any name to find more information.
If a language is not listed, you can find out how to start a localisation project for a language at "New Language". Or check our list of languages already set up, which are waiting for translators to work on them at "Languages without translators".
If you translate to a language and your name is not listed, please add your name to the list of translators on the portal for that language. Use the following format so that the software recognises the name: * {{user|YOUR USERNAME}}

Can you see if it is possible to split the header message in two: one part that would apply to all users of this extension and one part which could be custmised for each wiki... like how to sign up? – Nike 14:20, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
I'm not familiar enough with the extension to know which bits of the header apply to all users of this extension and which are customised for translatewiki.net! This would take me a long time to work out, I think! But I agree that splitting the header into two is a good idea.
Is it the case that the current header applies to all users of this extension, but the proposed amendments are all customisations for translatewiki.net?
It makes sense to separate the two if we are going to change the text. In the current version in use this seems to be twn specific:
- If a language is not listed, you can find out how to start a localization project for a language at "New Language".
- If you translate to a language and your name is not included, please add your name to the list of translators on the portal for that language. See the menu bar for a link to the portal for the language of your preference.
Will the new format of the page (colours & variable font size) be available in the extension?
Yes. Although it will be collected automatically instead of parsing portal pages. See http://userbase.kde.org/Special:SupportedLanguages
Then it splits very easily into 2 headers. The first para is applicable to the extension and the second 2 paras are for translatewiki.net, I think.
If you wanted to add a sentence to the header about Adyghe also being supported, you could. This is the only language that the software doesn't display on SupportedLanguages, as far as I can see.
What's the status of this project?
The remaining part is to finalise and add a new header to the page and to prepare that for translation. I'm sorry to say that I don't have the time to learn how to do this at the moment.
If you can provide the text, I can implement it.

Please note that Adyghe is supported even though it is not listed below.
Please edit as necessary. I wasn't sure about the conditions for the colour green for example.
Just FYI: Adyghe is not supported. The code has not been set up.
Will be/Is a table of exact numbers for colours, sizes and language order somewhere? I would appreciate some link from header.
