How can we test this app?217:45, 23 December 2011

The message is "Close read in other languages screen"

Is this shown on the "read in other languages screen" itself or elsewhere? Translation would change slightly depending on that.

Thanks

PS: Same question for Wikimedia:Mobileapp-nearby-close/en

Hi! I need a clue what is the "Output" message used for.

Thanks, Mikołka (talk)09:34, 30 January 2012

In I wanted to double-check that the variable $1 will return a localised wiki sitename (not the original English sitename).

Lloffiwr (talk)14:03, 28 December 2011

I have asked Patrick Reilly, developer of this application, for help. He tells me it is the local name.

I think it is better to add "to your device" to prevent confusion. Maybe users can think it is possible to edit and save to wiki. Thanks.

Kwj2772 (talk)05:08, 21 December 2011

Niklas, can you please take this up with product management?

"Save page for offline reference" seems better to me, but let's get product management aware of it first. They'll come up with something better, I'm sure...

Siebrand09:51, 23 December 2011

There's not really room for that on the current menu, but we're thinking of moving it into a submenu where there'd be a little more room.

brion (talk)17:46, 23 December 2011

That would be nice. I agree that "save page" also gave me the (initial) impression that it had to do with editing. Maybe find a two word phrase containing "offline"?

  • Take offline
  • Save offline
  • Keep offline
  • <moar ideas?>

fallback-functionality

Hi, is WikipediaMobile capable of fallback-functionality? Cheers

[[kgh]] (talk)12:25, 19 November 2011

It doesn't do all the cross-language fallbacks that MediaWiki does, but it does do some. If you're given the 'pt-br' locale for instance it will load up in order:

  • en (fills out initial base)
  • pt (overrides English with anything present here)
  • pt-br (final overrides)

How can we test this app?

To know how the messages are shown exactly, I want to test and see the app in my Android phone or virtualization software. It seems there isn't deployed in Android Market yet, so should we get the source and build by myself?

aokomoriuta (talk)14:40, 19 November 2011

The source code of the app is here : https://github.com/wikimedia/WikipediaMobile . If you know git you won't have any problem to build it with the android skd.

We now have automatic nightly builds going, you can download the latest at: http://integration.mediawiki.org/WikipediaMobile/nightly/Wikipedia_latest.apk
