Terve Nike! Olen ollut viime päivinä kääntämässä ja yhtäkkiä huomasin tätä huomatustekstiä: Translators: Remember to ask for your changes to be committed. Smaller changes are easier to review than one big change.

1.9, 1.10

Hi Nike, I'd like to know if it is safe to edit the special:translate, since your statistics only refer to the 1.9 branch, while meta:Localization_statistics refers to 1.10, with different numbers (for PT and PT_BR). pt:User:Waldir 5. huhtikuuta 2007 kello 01.48 (UTC)

Thanks, I'll start moving some messages from the mediawiki namespace to here, then. Waldir 8. huhtikuuta 2007 kello 21.10 (UTC)
I complided a list of the mediawikis to be moved on this page. I need permissions to edit the mediawikis in Betawiki, if i try to edit the pages i can only see the source code... Waldir 11. huhtikuuta 2007 kello 00.22 (UTC)

Hello Nike. I am bureaucrat in the Galician Wikipedia. We have not files LanguageGl.php and MessagesGl.php . The translation in gl.wp is near to finish. I ask for translator and import privileges to use Betawiki to maintain these files. Thanks. Greetings. --Prevert 7. huhtikuuta 2007 kello 11.15 (UTC)

Some messages of http://gl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Allmessages are definitive (others are in revision process). It's faster import than copy/paste. Thanks. Best regards. --Prevert 7. huhtikuuta 2007 kello 13.41 (UTC)

Ok. Thanks. --Prevert 7. huhtikuuta 2007 kello 14.04 (UTC)

You have made dual form for Samogitian language. Now I see what I have more problems with numbers :-/ its looks like:

  • 1,21,31,...,101,121,...,1001,... vāks - singular
  • 2,22,32,...,102,122,...,1002,... vāko - dual
  • 0,10-19,20,30,...,110-119,120,...,1010-1019,... vakū - plural
  • 3-9,23-29,33-39,...,103-109,123-129,...,1003,... or everything else vākā - plural

It's iterations of number. So, is there posibility to make it nice? -- Zordsdavini 06:16, 28 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Small mistake - 11,12,111,112,1011,1012,... - have to be the same as 13,14,15,... - it is "vākū" - plural. Thanks -- Zordsdavini 11:45, 1 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Last small mistake (I think) - the number which ends in 0 - has form with vākū. Another forms are OK. --Zordsdavini 12:43, 2 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Dear Nike, is it the structure of numering finished. If Yes - can You give example how it have to be used. --Zordsdavini 05:36, 18 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Changes in LV

Hello! Haven't been here for some time, only sometimes where wandering why the changes do not appear in the interface. :) It turns out we need to point out when something is ready (which makes sense, of course).

So, there are some new translation changes ready for Latvian version - would you be so kind and submit them? I reviewed them once more and it seemed OK. Only I'm not sure about "monobook.js". Currently it says it's deprecated and I'm not sure where did the Latvian replacable version come from and is it used anywhere. If it is not, then it maybe can be skipped (or reverted)? --Knakts 18. huhtikuuta 2007 kello 19.34 (UTC)

Done. Monobook.js has been migrated automatically. — Nike 19. huhtikuuta 2007 kello 18.01 (UTC)

Mutta heti huomasin joitakuita ongelmia: 1. kaikissa tarkistamani wikipedioissa (fiu-vro, et, en) (käyttäen võron käyttöliittymää) näkyy viestin "mu perräkaemisnimekiri" sijasta virheellinen viesti "<my-watchlist>"; 2. võron wikipediassa on aika suuri osa järjestelmäviesteistä jäänyt vanhaan muotoon (esim. etusivulla näkyy viestin "Tallitusleheküleq" sijasta "Eräliseq leheküleq", "Eräteedüse kaitsminõ" sijasta on "Privaatsus" jne). --Võrok 24. huhtikuuta 2007 kello 07.58 (UTC)
"My-watchlist"-ongelma on ratkaistu, kiitos!
Viestit, joita on muutettu paikallisesti, eivät päivity automaattisesti. Englanninkieliset viestit tulevat laajennoksista (extension). Niitä voi kääntää valitsemalla laajennoksen message class -pudotusvalikosta. — Nike 25. huhtikuuta 2007 kello 11.04 (UTC)

Welsh translation

I have started reviewing the core messages that you kindly imported from Wicipedia for the Welsh translation (cy). I have started in alphabetical order and have completed to the end of the letter a. I was not sure how big a chunk of reviewed messages you wanted to upload at a time. Do you want me to review all of the imported core messages or should I notify you in chunks in alphabetical order?

Also, I am not sure how to find out what some of these messages do. For example, in imagelisttext what is the variable $2?

Also, I am still not clear about what happens after the updated system messages are uploaded onto Mediawiki. Is there then an automatic update to the interfaces on the Welsh language wikis and other multi-language wikis which have a Welsh interface? Or do we need to request developers to update each wiki individually? Please excuse the many questions. Lloffiwr 9. kesäkuuta 2007 kello 20.38 (UTC)

1) Better go trough and review all of the imported messages at first. 2) Medawiki:bydate, I think 3) All non modified messages are updated automatically — Nike 10. kesäkuuta 2007 kello 16.54 (UTC)
Thank you very much for the replies - I will go and bother people on Mediawiki about the context of system messages! :) Lloffiwr 10. kesäkuuta 2007 kello 20.29 (UTC)

Help needed for committing the Somali language translation

Terve, Nike. Olen jonkun verran tehnyt somalian kielen käännökset ja ajattelin että voisit ajaa järjestelmän läpi. En ole ihan varma mitä lisätietoa tarvitaan, kun tämä on ensimäistä kertaa. Kiitos etukäteen avusta. ---- M. I. Mursal -- 3. toukokuuta 2007 kello 16.26 (UTC)

Huom. fi.wikissa on muotoa Wikipedia:Ohje. ---- M. I. Mursal -- 6. toukokuuta 2007 kello 11.36 (UTC)

Committing for Somali language

Hei, Niklas

On taas tehty käännöksiä, joten voisitko ajaa systeemille. Voisitko antaa vinkkejä miten so.wikissa olemassa olevat (eli englannin kielisana) sivuille voisi tehdä käännösten lisääntyessä? Tehdä uusia sivuja, jälleen ohjatta vai jotain muuttaa. Kiitos. ---- M. I. Mursal -- 9. toukokuuta 2007 kello 14.11 (UTC)

En ole ihan varma mitä tarkoitat. Jos sivuja on muokattu so.wikissä, niin uudet käännökset eivät korvaa niitä automaattisesti. Turhia sivuja Mediawiki-nimiavaruudesta voi poistaa. — Nike 9. toukokuuta 2007 kello 15.26 (UTC)

Pohjoissaamenkielisen Wikipedian kääntäminen

Hei! Olen pohjoissaamenkielisen Wikipedian yksi ylläpitäjistä. Pohjoissaamenkielisen Wikipedian "pohjatekstien" kääntäminen on todella heikolla mallilla. Olen yrittänyt joitain tekstejä kääntää, mutten ymmärrä niistä paljoakaan. Minua neuvottiin ottamaan yhteyttä tänne. Osaisitko kertoa miten olisi kaikista helpointa kääntää Wikipedian "perustekstejä" pohjoissaameks ja missä? --Skuolfi 13. toukokuuta 2007 kello 13.03 (UTC)

Kääntäminen täällä onnistuu samoin kuin muissakin Mediawikeissä; sivulla Toiminnot:Translate. Auttaisiko kääntämistä, jos näkisit suomenkielisen käännöksen englanninkielisen tekstin rinnalla? — Nike 14. toukokuuta 2007 kello 10.38 (UTC)
Hei! Anteeksi, että vastaaminen kesti näinkin kauan. (Melkein neljä kuukautta... Ups...)

--Skuolfi 22:05, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Aina kun pyydät, eli toivottavasti sopivan usein. – Nike 22:36, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hei! Olen kääntänyt noin puolet Toiminnot:Translate teksteistä. Voisitko päivittää niitä jossain vaiheessa pohjoissaamenkieliseen wikipediaan? --Skuolfi 15:24, 2 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I've chanend the "nstab-template" message in the kabyle interface, you've updated it but it still keeps the old one instead of the new one on the kab.wiki:

Where do I post a query on the context of interface messages?

Dear Nike - this is a copy of my query on the context of the messages that I have left on meta at [2]. I am copying it here so as to keep you informed.....

Thank you for the welcome message you left on my user page way back in November 2006! I write with a question concerning translation of the interface (I am updating the Welsh translation via Nike's special interface translation site). I hope that you can help me find out where to post this query either on Meta or on Mediawiki.org or some other appropriate page. I have looked but am feeling a little lost. I don't know how to use IRC channels yet although I am trying to find out. Anyway this is the query:

When translating messages it is sometimes necessary to know the context of the message before it can be translated. It is often possible to guess the context and use of the message from its's title and up till now I have done translations by going through all the wiki special pages and actions that I can think of and searching for the word strings I find there in the list of allmessages. That means that I automatically know the context. However there are still messages which are a puzzle to me, eg Mediawiki:blocklink. Is there some way to find this out that I haven't understood?

If there isn't then could you consider creating a system which would provide some information on the message. Perhaps this could be done either individually for each message on its message talk page on meta or on a new page in table form. The information that could be useful for some of the messages is:

  • What page it appears on
  • What function it has (text, button label, tab label, choice in a dropdown box, check box label, message during an operation, message on completion of an operation).
  • What any message variables return in the finished product eg Mediawiki:Noconnect
  • Where the message is just a word or phrase in the middle of something else, then what comes before and after.

If it is matter of asking specific questions on individual messages, rather than creating a record of info on all messages, then where or who should I ask and can we build up a record of the answers that can be systematically accessed by all translators (ie not buried in an archive)?

I also have a query on the PLURAL function but that can wait! In hope Lloffiwr 26. kesäkuuta 2007 kello 20.07 (UTC)
As far as I know there is no active message documentation project. There's been some in the past, but nothing comprehensive. Best place to ask about context is probably on irc at #mediawiki-i18n or #mediawiki. — Nike 27. kesäkuuta 2007 kello 15.14 (UTC)
OK. Hope you enjoyed your vacation. Lloffiwr 27. kesäkuuta 2007 kello 22.56 (UTC)

deleted system messages

I have noticed that there are some system messages in cy/Wikipedia which have been deleted by Mediawiki (when I try to translate a warning appears that 'You are recreating a page that was previously deleted'). timezone offset

Hello, Currently the timezone offset in the "my preferences" page can only be defined as an integer number of hours; however, there are some countries and regions that use half hour (eg: GMT+4:30 instead of just GMT+4): India, Iran, middle Australia zone, New Foundland, and from 1st of september Venezuela and maybe some few others. There is even a couple of countries (eg Nepal) that use quarter of an hour offsets. (and if we want to even complicat it, there are those summer/winter hours some countries love)

The information about the various different timzeones is usually available on the server computer; isn't it possible to get somehow a list of available timezones from the server system and display it to the user choice? (and have php use the system for the hour offset)

Srtxg

Haha

Is the traffic to the site still getting better? I'm trying to revive translators that were active until a while ago and that have uncommitted strings for their language by approching them on their home wikis. A few have become active almost instantly. The sad thing is: once I stop approaching people, some of them will most probably stop translating again. I want Gangleri back who did all this stuff and more for this project... Cheers! Siebrand 28. elokuuta 2007 kello 12.33 (UTC)

Uyghur interwiki mistake

Greetings Nike!

Nice to meet you.

Several Uyghurs have already kindly informed me that the interwiki link "Oyghurque" is the wrong pronounciation.

Can you please change it to:

Uyghurche‎ / ئۇيغۇرچە

I had included both the Uyghur Latin script (Yengi Yezik) and Uyghur Arabic script (Kona Yezik) because both of them are still being used.

(For example, the Kurdish interwiki link also has two different scipts: Kurdî / كوردی )

Thankyou. --Jose77 29. elokuuta 2007 kello 05.41 (UTC)

Untranslated strings on Recent Changes Page of BW

Hi Nike, on the mentioned page the following 2 strings are still untranslated (must be in Upper Sorbian):

  • View modifications to this language:

Where can I translate them? Seems that they are untranslated in all languages (but I tested German only). Regards, --Michawiki 21:50, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

All languages checked: status and planning

Hi Nike. I have checked all languages for messages that were not equal to those in SVN. Where possible I have left a message at the editing user's home wiki, inviting home to request a commit. For some languages I have requested a commit here. Earlier I posted messages about localisation of MediaWiki in village pumps that were linked from Meta.

Next will be another trip around the languages as specifically targeting Village Pumps for langauges we have not yet seen traffic on on Betawiki. My plan is to provide some statistics and examples tailored to the specific languages when posting the messages. I plan to post in both Wikipedia and Wiktionary for the language, inviting those interested here.

Also, I was wondering if the current capacity of committers is sufficient. If needed, I could also request commit access as a committer, so I can also take some of the commit load. I would need some specific training on the DOs and DON'Ts, I guess, but I expect to pick things up quickly.

Anyway, please let me know if I can improve on any of the plans I explained above. Cheers! Siebrand 15:54, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Let me just say, I think it's a great idea. I've went to fo.wikipedia and saw that they had translated a lot locally and asked them if they were interested in coming to Betawiki. There's not much activity there so I'm still waiting for a response. I'm also going to wait one or two months before I do any more promoting, because it looks like Betawiki is going to be moving to Incubator. I wouldn't recommend promoting a project that's about to be moved. How about waiting for one month and then promote Incubator instead? For instance, I created this template to be put on wikipedia:MediaWiki:editinginterface if and when Betawiki moves to Incubator. --Steinninn 17:40, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Nike. I'm the translator for sicilian language. I've translated all interface messages. Now I'd like to provide localization information for sicilian. How can I do this? Thanks, Tonyfroio 13:41, 18 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

What exactly are you talking about? Things like namespaces and such? This is not supported through the translate extension and requires more understanding of MediaWiki functionality - please be aware of that. Please take a look at the class files and messages files in the MediaWiki subversion repository. Just let us know what you wish to add to the files or make your own diff to the files and request a commit of a patch through bugzilla. Does this answer your question? Cheers! Siebrand 14:56, 18 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
P.s. 330 messages in the core messages as show untranslated[7]. Are all of those equal to the fallback language (first it, then en)? Please also do not forget about translating the messages for the extensions. 981 show untranslated for scn. When translating extensions, please translate them one extension at a time. This makes exporting and committing the extensions easier for us.
Yes, I was talking about them (namespaces etc.). I think I'm not able to change those files.
I've seen untranslated messages and I'm about to translate them (but many of them are identical to fallback language). Then should I ask for exporting or translate extension messages before? Thanks, Tonyfroio 17:20, 18 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

PLURAL and GRAMMAR for Welsh translation

Following our IRC conversation of some time ago I have put the option of using a combination of PLURAL and GRAMMAR for Welsh plurals to the Welsh wicipedia community and had no objections. However, before going ahead, I would like to check with you the following. You suggested that we could use a GRAMMAR function which would have two outputs, one for $1=0 and the other for everything else. If we do this will we still be able to use GRAMMAR for other things as well? I ask because we may need to use GRAMMAR for initial mutations (the first letter of some words changes depending on the word before it or its syntax). So far we have been able to avoid this problem quite well, but we may need to be able to have a GRAMMAR function which has the capacity to have 4 outputs (eg. Cymorth, Gymorth, Nghymorth, Chymorth for the namespace 'Help'). Lloffiwr 11:57, 5 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Grammar can output about anything, but it can take only two inputs, the string and name of grammatical function which is applied to the string. – Nike 12:11, 5 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I have looked again at the advice concerning GRAMMAR on Wikimedia and unfortunately I still can't work out whether we can use GRAMMAR for coping with the grammar needed for $1=0 in PLURAL and also still keep the possibility of using GRAMMAR to cope with initial mutation (if and when needed). So I hope to set out what we need for both and then perhaps yourself, or another developer if you're busy, could advise us what is possible. I have put the logic needed (not the wiki logic, just normal logic) for both on the Betawiki:LanguageCy.php_and_MessagesCy.php#section-de0ce5fd5e5283393f34378c0955758c page. PLURAL for Irish translation

Hi, just wondering if you could help with doing this for Irish as well - it’s a similar situation. We could perhaps do something with GRAMMAR down the track to handle the sound changes automatically, but maybe the first objective should be to allow translators to put the different forms in as parameters to PLURAL.

The usual kludge is to just use a plural form after numbers (which doesn’t require a 'mutation'), but although this is technically OK, it isn’t the way the language normally works.

So can you help if I work out the logic? Actually I’m sure I have it somewhere as implementing something like this for translations on LiveJournal was discussed some years ago, though it never eventuated for Irish. ☸ Moilleadóir 16:39, 29 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Importing translations?

Hi, I'm going to try to do "localization" for Volapük. Since I've been working for a while on the Volapük Wikipedia and Wiktionary, many, maybe most of the system messages have already been translated. Is there a way to import them from the Volapük Wikipedia to here, so that I don't have to redo them all? --Smeira 03:50, 13 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I can do the import if you promise to fix (i.e. clean up and generalize) the import in some reasonable time frame. – Nike 07:08, 13 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Oh yes, I do! But what's a reasonable time frame for you? Given the size of the task (thousands of messages), maybe 3-6 months? A year? (Note that I'm still finding my way around in this wiki.) --Smeira 21:47, 14 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
You don't need to translate every message yet. You just have to make the imported messages appropriate and suitable for any MediaWiki installation. – Nike 05:18, 15 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
And what does that mean? Just replacing e.g. "Wikipedia" with "{{SITENAME}}" and similar things? --Smeira 15:24, 16 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry -- you probably have a lot of work to do -- but when will I be able to work with the messages already translated from the Volapük Wikipedia? Have they already been imported, or will they soon be? --Smeira 01:40, 21 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Nike. There are new messages in the extensions and in some of them the abbreviation "CV" occurs. What does this abbreviation mean? Problem in Upper Sorbian Wikipedia

Hi Nike. Dundak and I we have a problem in hsbwp. Dundak wrote yesterday that he was able to select Lower Sorbian in the preferences of the German Wikipedia. So we wanted to test it in hsbwp, too. But, what a shock. The switching worked but we switched into nothing. Now, we haven't access to the pages in hsbwp when we are logged in. We can use hsbwp only when we aren't logged in. Do you have any idea how to solve this issue? I tested it in Estonian wp, too and there it worked as well. May be it would work in hsbwp now, too, but at first we have to find a way back to our preferences dialog. Thank in advance and kind regards, --Michawiki 21:41, 31 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Should hopefully be fixed now. – Nike 07:49, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately not. As soon as I'm logged in I get empty pages only. By http://hsb.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Preferences?uselang=hsb I can access to the preferences dialog, but after saving it's the same issue. Regards, --Michawiki 13:05, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
This is a "works for me" logged in, with interface language set to "hsb" in FireFox 2.0.0.8. Have you tried emptying all your caches? Have you tried in multiple browsers? Have you cleared your monobook.js/.css? Cheers! Siebrand 14:11, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
The log-in process works for me as well. But after this I can't acces to all pages, they are empty. Usually I use SM , but I tried it in FF 2.0.0.8 as well but there is the same issue. Cache I've emptied repeatedly as well. To Common.js and Common.css I don't have access because they are protected. I assume they are protected for users they aren't logged in. But as soon as I'm logged in, I see empty Common.js resp. Common.css only. May be there's any conflict between hsb and dsb. I'm in a trap. --Michawiki 14:55, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Right! If I log in to hsb.wikipedia and I set my language to dsb, I am indeed between a rock and a hard place: empty pages. I'll look into it. Cheers! Siebrand 15:01, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
REALLY strange. I have alsotried setting my language to both hsb and dsb on ff.wikipedia and I do not see the same symptoms there. I'll ask in #mediawiki. Cheers! Siebrand 15:04, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

commit changes to transstat.php?

Hi Nike. It looks like you may have made some changes to transstat.php to create Full list. transstat.php should report on any selectable language for the interface of MediaWiki anyway, so could you please commit those changes to SVN? This will also mean that SPQRobin will be able to get his data from www.mediawiki.org instead of needing you to run the modified script. Cheers! Siebrand 10:11, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Those languages are not selectable, they just have a code, nothing else. What's so hard having one page which lists those (it doesn't need to be updated anyway). --Nike 10:50, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

transstat.php-like stats for extension translate supported extensions

Hey Nike. Now that I'm writing on your talk page, I might as well push my other idea/need to you. Would you be abel and willing to write some transstat.php-like functionality to report on the translation status of messages from i18n-able extensions, or, which is probably easier, extensions that are supported by extension Translate. Using translate as a list provider will probably also make maintenance easier/not required. Cheers! Siebrand 10:13, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Question

Hi Nike. Another little issue. In the special page for "Short pages" usually stands the size of the short page behind the entries. But with us, in hsbwp, the number is missing, there is the word bajtow (=bytes) only, without number. Seems that there any variable is missing. I've already checked the messages and they are all OK. IMHO the most probable message which could be responsible for this is pagesize. But this message doesn't contain any variable, nor in English. What cause could be for this error? Regards, --Michawiki 21:54, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

There was a $1 missing in Mediawiki:Nbytes. Corrected. --Dundak 07:49, 2 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Anyway, Nike, may I ask you a question? Where could I define {{GRAMMAR}} for the purpose of getting right spellings in Dsb? For instance, Wikipedija, Wikipedije, Wikipediji and so on? Thanks! --Dundak 07:49, 2 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

The error in the message nbytes was local only, in hsbwp. Here in Betawiki it's correct. --Michawiki 10:15, 2 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Edition box height

When I wish to translate a message, I jump to Special:Translate, choose the message, and click edit. Betawiki opens a page with three edition boxes. The height of the third is set within my preferences.

However, in the third box, most messages fit on one line. For this reason, I set the height of that box to 6 lines (this saves time when I scroll down). However, the setting applies to all edit boxes (e.g., when I edit the support page).

It would be nice to set the third edit box height without changing the setting of the other edit boxes.

Plural is supported in the success message. See for example Grondins french translation MediaWiki:Mergehistory-success/fr. The logentry is similar to other log entries seen in Special:Log, the Pagemerge-logentry is the part of the log that is shown after the date and username. So no parameter is needed for the username who did the merge. /90.229.135.31 22:07, 3 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wp/njo

HI nike, I have been granted the translator previlege for Ao Wikipedia test project i.e. Wp/njo. The problem is I've no clue how to proceed. For eg, what is 'commit' and 'import'? Forgive me for my ignorance, but I am determined to see Ao Wikipedia take off. Thanks. --Aoelixir

Hi Aoelixir. To commit means putting the translation work from Betawiki into the MediaWiki product. That is done by developers (technical export). To import messages would be importing already translated MediaWiki messages from another wiki. As far as I know, that is not possible here, as this would be the first MediaWiki project in Ao. So... Where to start: start on the 500 most often used messages for Ao. Best use a tabbed browser. Click CTRL+'edit' for a message, translate it in the bottom field of the newly opened tab and save the page. Continue the process for the next message, and so on. Please let us know at Support if you require any additional support. Cheers! Siebrand 19:44, 3 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Database errors today

Hello,

Today I have seen the following error several times on different pages at betawiki.

Databasfel
Ett syntaxfel i databasfrågan har uppstått. Den senaste utförda databasfrågan var:

    DELETE FROM `bw_objectcache` WHERE exptime < '20071224225529'

från funktionen "MediaWikiBagOStuff::_doquery". MySQL returnerade felen "126: Incorrect key file for table './testwiki/bw_objectcache.MYI'; try to repair it (localhost)".)

If I try to the reload the page, I have not gotten the same error. I don't know if this is a serious error, but I thought you might want to know about it. /Lejonel 23:03, 24 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I just did a table replair on the table objectcache. Should be fine again. Thank you for reporting this. Cheers! Siebrand 23:13, 24 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Bug in Special:Magic

Hi, Nike. There is a bug in Special:Magic. Every and each time I click "Save" after modifying a magic word, an extra space is added between every two words in the translation. See the difference between this version and this one. Example:

redirect=0, #تحويل, #REDIRECT

(Revision as of 7 October 2007, Normal behaviour: one space between every two words)

redirect=0,     #تحويل,     #REDIRECT

(Revision as of 27 December 2007, After updating the translation several times, extra spaces are added between every two words)

Thank you. --Meno25 03:59, 28 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Not a problem. This is again corrected in the export. Cheers! Siebrand 09:20, 28 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Additional language in the message edit page of lb

Hi Nike,

In order to facilitate the task of translating all the messages to lb it would be great if you could ad French (fr) as Additional language in the message edit page (in addition to the real fallback language (=german)).

Many thanks for this really great tool --Robby 08:58, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Dear Nike Greetings

I am the translator of pashto wikipedia http://ps.wikipedia.org. My name is Ahmed Najib Biabani Ibrahimkhel which is my username in wikiMedia and i use the pashto form of my name which is احمد-نجيب-بياباني-ابراهيمخېل as a username in Pashto wikipedia.

Now since i have been translating the Pashto wikipedia interface which i have done at some extent, i am asking you if there is any possibility to take the translated terms and set it automatically in the rest of the wikimedia projects like wikibooks and wikitionary.

I am also requesting you to make the same changes in NukaWiki and wikiMedia.

If you could do this favour for me i would be thankful to u.

or if you could let me know how i can do that i would appreciate that

Regards

Inflection

It will be helpful to support Grammar. However, I wonder how you can support individual language grammars? for eg: consider two mlwiki sitenames:

  • wikipedia = വിക്കിപീഡിയ
  • wiktionary = വിക്കിനിഘണ്ടു
  • wikiquote = വിക്കി ചൊല്ലുകൾ

Inflection changes are:

  • of wikipedia = വിക്കിപീഡിയയുടെ
  • of wiktionary = വിക്കിനിഘണ്ടുവിന്റെ
  • of wikiquote = വിക്കി ചൊല്ലുകളുടെ - not that it is not വിക്കി ചൊല്ലുകൾ + ടെ, but it is വിക്കി ചൊല്ലുക + ൾ changed to ളു + ടെ added.

Proposal for a WEB interface

How about building a namespace on this Wiki where messages would be stored for other wikis to come and fetch, dynamically, translated messages? Of course a local extension (for the client wikis) would have to perform caching in order not to overwhelm this wiki. Jldupont 14:11, 20 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Can you remove the fallback for pms?

Hi! I have no problem with whatver you choose to put as a fallback, but it's REALLY annoying when every time you have to first manually delete the italian message, then to copy the english expression you are going to translate. Is there a way to get rid of Italian when translating? --Bèrto 'd Sèra 12:03, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I did some testing and I think this is currently not possible. I'll discuss with Niklas if we want to invest in changing this behaviour... We have an extensive list of stuff we also want to work on, so we have to prioritise a bit... Cheers! Siebrand 12:49, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Your edit

What's the actual difference your edit on MediaWiki:Userrights-nologin/nds makes ([8])? I learned, that you should use local names for namespaces and special pages, even when they only appear in the URL (like [[{{ns:User}}:$1]] etc.), and that's what {{#...}} does, isn't it?

And, by the way, why "kiss"? Just curious :-) --Slomox 02:50, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

KISS: The KISS principle (acronym for "Keep It Simple, Stupid") states that design simplicity should be a key goal and unnecessary complexity avoided. :) Siebrand 06:44, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
There is no need to add magic variables to links except in one case: link does not have a custom title. You wont notice it on Betawiki, but the MediaWiki will normalise link targets automatically (to the localised form). Keep up the good work! :D – Nike 08:47, 17 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Okay, thanks. KISS, in uppercase I think I had gotten the hang of it ;-) --Slomox 18:28, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

MediaWiki:Noarticletext/nds-nl

Why is MediaWiki:Noarticletext/nds-nl fuzzy. This is how it's displayed on the nds-nl-wiki. People find it very usefull (zeuken = search, start dit artikel = edit and prefixindex is extra). Servien 11:01, 27 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

That's great, and please do keep it there as such if that is what your local community wants. But localisation is not about personal preference, but about localising the standard interface as well as possible to the target language. Thank you for your understanding. Cheers! Technical question

When I edited this, the system says that links like [[Translating:Intro|Introducción a las traducciones]] and many others have some sort of problem in them (that is why it is marked FUZZY) but I fail to see what the problem is. I asked SPQRobin about it and he told me it was OK and it is maybe something the software for some reason finds wrong. Can you have a look at it, please? I have asked this same question to Siebrand (just in case you find it already fixed). Thanks in advance. Regards. --Piolinfax 16:25, 13 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

German FreeCol

Hi, I have updated german translations, could you release them? Thx, Mayday 09:45, 27 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I update all translation at once, so they will get in next export. – Nike 10:36, 27 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
All right. But I found out a Problem. Many Codetags existing in the "FreeColMessages.properties" I could not found in the "FreeColMessages_de.properties" (for example model.nation.Dutch) or they are completly named different (en=colopedia.buildings.name.TownHall ; de=model.building.TownHall.name)! Is it possible to add this Codetags in my language or must this be done by an admin? Mayday 11:39, 27 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hmm? Codes which are not translated do not show up in translation files. Please check again after I have done the export. Note also that some messages are hidden under "optional messages", because they usually don't need translating. – Nike 12:31, 27 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Becouse in Basque "Help" is "Laguntza". But you can put again the same thing, but, why? Is there any problem?--Bengoa (My user talk) 09:31, 28 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Bengoa. The namespace names should not be translated anywhere except for in Special:AdvancedTranslate. The reason for that is that the English names work everywhere, no matter what language a wiki is in. If you link to «Laguntza:Test», it will work fine on all Basque wikis, but if you use the Basque interface in a Russian wiki, it will not work, as «Laguntza» will not be a redirect to «Справка», while «Help» will be. We do a lot of things and we all do them voluntarily. Please be patient. Thank you for your understanding. If you think you are bing held back, there are 4100+ extension messages for MediaWiki, 1000+ messages for FreeCol and some 500 messages for other projects. If the plural has not been added when you are done with those in 3 weeks, I'll personally go to Finland and kick the shit out of Niklas :) Cheers! Siebrand 08:04, 13 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Plural for Thai language

Hello Niki, I believe you're the FuzzyBot operator. I'm wondering if you can make the bot ignore "plural" tag for Thai l10n. In Thai language there are no single or plural forms. They use same words. Thank you.

By the way, I saw someone wrote down like this instead {{PLURAL:$3|หน้า|หน้า}}. --Manop 07:26, 13 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

We currently do not have an intelligent FuzzyBot. Best just re-assess the translation, and if there is no need to update, just remove the !!FUZZY!!. Siebrand 08:02, 13 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Number display in Khmer Language (km)

In Khmer Language, we don't need «,» in Natural numbers. (For example: (km:១,២៣៤) 1,234. In Khmer Language, it doesn't need «,». If it is placed, it means the digits after «,» is a decimal number.
