What is the difference between "referring from" and "linked from" in the messages Pywikipedia:Delete-referring-pages/en and Pywikipedia:Delete-linked-pages/en?

Lloffiwr (talk)20:21, 10 June 2013

This is the documentation in delete.py:

-links: Delete all pages linked from a given page.
-ref: Delete all pages referring from a given page.
Siebrand13:27, 2 July 2013

Question posted at Mediawiki.

Lloffiwr (talk)10:01, 6 October 2013

Reply by Legoktm on Mediawiki:

"link is all the links on a page. So if your page content was Page1 Page2, it would use those two pages. refer is basically Special:WhatLinksHere, or all the pages that link to the page provided."

Pywikipedia:Thirdparty-drtrigonbot-sum disc-parse-end

In Thirdparty-drtrigonbot-sum disc-parse-end (“<noinclude>
Summary generated from and at: %(sign)s</noinclude>
”)
what is %(sign)s?

Lloffiwr (talk)18:25, 6 July 2013

4 tildes, a signature.

Siebrand08:09, 8 July 2013

Check claims that %(to)s wasn't used just because the "s" is dropped in Polish. Or maybe it's true that it has to be used like that, but then docs should be clarified.

Nemo (talk)12:32, 15 May 2013

The parameter is "%(to)s", so the check is 100% correct. The documentation has been correct since it was imported in the beginning of 2013.

Project map

Hi all. This map of translator locations is the only live map I've seen on any of the Wiki family. Can you please tell me where does the map come from? Meta? I've searched for years to no avail! I would like to use it o Wikipedia cy (Welsh) to visually show the locations of all round cairns. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know I'm posting in the wrong place, and I apologise. Diolch.

Robin Owain (talk)08:17, 5 May 2013

It's produced by a combination of Maps and Semantic Maps extensions.

Nike (talk)09:34, 5 May 2013

Thanks. Where will I find the code please? And can I copy to Wiki-cy?

Robin Owain (talk)12:02, 5 May 2013

Hi. Just read that it's not possible on Wikipedia! What a loss! Thanks.

New pywikipedia messages to import

There are new pywikipedia messages to import to twn:

  • pywikibot.py (since 18-08-2012)
  • spellcheck.py (since 11-06-2012)

I would like to support for importing new messages but I don't know how to proceed (except changing the corresponding yaml file but this doesn't seem to be enough). Regards.

Xqt (talk)07:36, 13 October 2012

If you update the YAML file and submit the patch set, that's already a big help.

BUG: Empty pywikipedia messages

In pwb svn release 10550 a lot of empty messages where exported. Examining this bug in twn I found already empty messages here, e.g. this and all the other ones. The related empty messages also doesn't have an empty translation page, the messages aren't never created; here is a corresponding sample or right-click one of the related empty messages. Regards.

Xqt (talk)06:32, 13 October 2012

That was very unfortunate. Thanks for catching it. It should have been resolved again by now.

Siebrand11:05, 15 October 2012

Should be merged using PLURAL.

EugeneZelenko14:05, 17 August 2011

Pywikipedia has no plural support.

Siebrand14:52, 20 August 2011

Hopefully not yet.

Nike18:11, 20 August 2011

Maybe ;)

PLURAL support implemented in release 9682

Xqt (talk)15:47, 29 October 2011

There is a thread asking for documentation how to use it.

Nike (talk)16:50, 8 January 2012
Xqt (talk)14:45, 13 January 2012

To the translating:pywikipedia project page or even in the group description.

Nike (talk)07:29, 17 January 2012

group description ? Could you explain please. Xqt (talk) 13:43, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

How can I set the different between one or many, if I need to remove "ה" and add "ות"?

Ofekalef (talk)17:58, 16 January 2012

Plural was added -- also to another message of archivebot.

Documentation on using PLURAL in Pywikipedia

I understand that Pywikipedia now has PLURAL support. Can someone who knows how the PLURAL support works please put a note of explanation on the project page. We translators need to know how to write the PLURAL code into the messages. Also, can you explain whether we can use PLURAL on any message, or whether we need to request that PLURAL is enabled for particular messages (as we do for MediaWiki).

Lloffiwr (talk)19:04, 6 November 2011

Should support PLURAL for %(num)d.

EugeneZelenko15:05, 18 January 2011

Maybe coming soon.

Xqt14:02, 21 August 2011

Support is ready now.

Xqt17:21, 28 August 2011

PLURAL supported now. You may use sth like {{PLURAL:num|1 entry|%(num)d entries or {{PLURAL:%(num)d|1 entry|%(num)d entries. But be aware: there are only 2 variants supported yet.

Xqt02:22, 26 August 2011

Full plural support is implemented since release 9468 Xqt (talk) 15:07, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

Siebrand09:30, 13 September 2011

This and other disambiguation bot messages should support PLURAL for one and many links. Translation may be more complicated then English (s) suffix.

EugeneZelenko15:19, 28 January 2011

I guess we will implement a separate plural tw-message if needed other than a $PLURAL(..) meta tag

Xqt21:52, 12 August 2011

Adding another message for plural is not going to solve the problem. That is not how plurals work in many languages.

Nike05:25, 13 August 2011

Could you explain please why different messages, one for singular, one for plural, does not work in many languages? We have implemented sth similar for table2wiki messages: table2wiki-no-warning, table2wiki-one-warning, table2wiki-warnings. And there is a bot script (not ported to translatewiki yet) which uses messages like this:

template-msg-change = {
    'en':u'Robot: Changing template: %s',
}

template-msgs-change = {
    'en':u'Robot: Changing templates: %s',
}

This gives separate messages for each variant.

Xqt12:30, 20 August 2011
Nike14:23, 20 August 2011

Ok, I see. I made a draft implementation for support in [1]. But how translators know about how many variants are used for a language?

Something's wrong with this message.

Rancher11:53, 10 July 2011

You have to be more specific.

Everything is OK now.

Message Category-listifying

What are the variables in Category-listifying (“Bot: Listifying from %(fromcat)s ()”)?

Pywikipedia:Category-adding

Edited by another user.
Last edit: 12:18, 7 May 2011

In Category-adding (“Bot: Adding category %(newcat)s”) do we localise "Category" within the wikilink? Is the idea behind localising Pywikipedia that the language you use for Pywikipedia matches the site language of the site you are working on, which would mean that we can translate "Category"?

Lloffiwr11:07, 7 May 2011

I have updated the message.

Siebrand21:31, 7 May 2011

It is interesting: see Category:%(newcat)s.

Тест05:01, 8 May 2011

So? That's just what happens in MediaWiki...

Siebrand07:24, 8 May 2011

The tooltip is in Dutch for me.

Nike08:14, 8 May 2011

It's in Finnish for me. But I doubt that's what Тест8 meant.

Retain wikilinks in messages?

In Redirect-remove-broken (“Redirect to a deleted or non-existent page”) and Redirect-remove-loop (“Redirect target forms a redirect loop”) do we need to remove the wikilinks to make the message applicable on all wikis?

Lloffiwr17:29, 7 May 2011

pywikipedia isn't necessarily localised for all wikis. It's mainly there for Wikipedia.

Siebrand18:24, 7 May 2011

tl version

Can someone please provide a link for the tl version of this website?

AnakngAraw20:17, 22 April 2011

redirect-remove-broken

I'm wondering if Pywikipedia messages like the one linked above Redirect-remove-broken (“Redirect to a deleted or non-existent page”) should be explicitely linking to Wikipedia pages, since Pywikipedia also has many users outside of Wikimedia. AFAIK, if one wants their custom reason, there is a --reason param to use.

The Evil IP address11:58, 15 January 2011

May be: Redirect→Redirect?

And why G8→G8 does not work?
Тест15:29, 15 January 2011

That's not the problem. Thing is that the Pywikipedia bot is also quite in use outside Wikipedia, and thus pages like Wikipedia:Redirect or Wikipedia:CSD don't exist there. Links to such pages should be avoided in the message.

The Evil IP address19:24, 15 January 2011

These links are used in messages for a certain wikimedia project (en.wiki, etc.). If one uses pwb outside Wikimedia projects, he won't use messages for en.wiki, for example. I don't see a problem here

(%cat)s

This "s" bit on the end exists on a number of messages to me translated, such as Interwiki-adding-modifying (“Bot: Adding %(adding)s; modifying %(modifying)s”).

Does it indicate that the category should be in plural form, or is it part of the syntax?

Ευρώπη |17:03, 16 January 2011

AFAIK, the %(variablename)s are variables by the software that are replaced then, like $1, $2, ... in MediaWiki. The "s" in the end probably means that it will be replaced with a string (d means digit). A plural function should probably be added there.
