 Done Veps is a Finno-Ugric langauage spoken in Russia. As far as I can tell, it is written in Latin script. I have set Finnish and Russian as a fallback language for now (Finnish being the primary). Please explain what exactly you need before we give you translator rights. 'ug' is now written in Latin script. We could add 'ug-latn' for Latin script, and 'ug-arab' for Arabic script, for example. Siebrand 07:39, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Yes 'ug' on Wikipedia is written in Latin script, but it is not understandable by the majority of Uyghurs. It is like if Wikipedia in English used the Cyrillic script--it would be totally useless. Therefore I would like to go in and fix the translations so that it is in an orthography readable by the majority of Uyghurs.Alfredie 16:45, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

That's not how we do things. We do not destroy previous work and replace it by something different, which is equally correct. If a language is written in multiple scripts, we will create an additional locale. Please stay tuned while I implement it. Should be done in a few hours. Siebrand 18:05, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Please elaborate on the usefulness of a Votian localisation. According to Ethnologue[2] there are 25 speakers. If you are aiming for a Wikisource, that can be done without a localisation. Siebrand 10:11, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

That count is *native* speakers; the latest count I know of is from 1998 made by an expedition from Tartu University, which put the number of *native* speakers at 30-40; another count from within the past 15 years put it nearer to 100. However, the key here is that it is only *native* speakers that are ever counted: there are several hundred people who are considered to be Votians. And, there is a larger community of people who know the language to varying degrees or are learning it. Yes, it's not an enormous community even with these people, I know... however, I think that a place such as a wikipedia would allow this rather dispersed community to congregate somewhere and work together to use the language and help it stay alive - and perhaps even grow. --2Q 10:52, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Though my personal preference is for cyrillic, latin is more commonly used, so for that question the answer is easy. For which exact system to use, however: there has been a book written for self-instruction, which of course has an orthography; this is what I'm planning to use.
