New localization: Sardinian

Hello everyone,

We have brought the localization into Sardinian close to 100%. From the documentation, we understand that the new locale will be automatically added within one week more or less. If there is anything else that we should do, please let us know.

Thank you very much in advance!

Adr mm (talk)18:32, 1 October 2022

Hi,

Are these months placed in the beginning of a sentenced (or by themselves)? If the month is placed in the middle of a sentence, then they will have small letters in Swedish.

Best,

Jopparn (talk)21:32, 6 November 2014

Computers still cannot interpret law, so the adjective "illegal" is probably the wrong one to use here. Presumably something like "invalid" or "incorrect" or "corrupted" was meant.

McDutchie (talk)13:40, 18 October 2013

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/illegal: 3. Unacceptable to or not performable by a computer: an illegal operation.

Siebrand22:59, 2 December 2013

Replace "behaviour" by "behavior".

  • Pad.modals.badChangeset.cause (“This could be due to a wrong server configuration or some other unexpected behavior. Please contact the service administrator, if you feel this is an error. Try to reconnect in order to continue editing.”)
  • Pad.modals.corruptPad.cause (“This may be due to a wrong server configuration or some other unexpected behavior. Please contact the service administrator.”)

Who is "us" that should be notified?

Siebrand18:11, 20 November 2012

Mh. Tricky. Prolly the hoster, not the devs.

mklehr (talk)19:42, 20 November 2012

fixed in the latest release.

This is an invalid implementation of Plural. English and some other languages have two forms, but many language have multiple plural forms.

Siebrand13:23, 27 January 2013

Updated our i18n lib, so this should be possible now. See https://github.com/ether/etherpad-lite/pull/1841/files for an example of how it works and https://github.com/marcelklehr/html10n.js#pluralization for a thorough explanation.

mklehr (talk)10:52, 23 July 2013

That's pretty awesome. In your documentation you mention "zero | one | two | few | many | other [..] as specified in the Unicode rules". Could you link to the Unicode rules? I assume you mean these (http://www.unicode.org/cldr/charts/supplemental/language_plural_rules.html ), but I cannot be certain.

Siebrand14:56, 30 July 2013

yep, these are the rules i meant. I'll add a link to the README.

Hi, I don't know how I should translate "Pad". Should I translate it as "Tablet computer"?

// WikiPhoenix [Talk]18:19, 25 November 2012

No. As I've just added to the documentation for the message: «A pad, in the context of Etherpad, is a notepad, something to write on».

Nemo (talk)18:52, 25 November 2012

Okay, thanks for the help!

// WikiPhoenix [Talk]18:59, 25 November 2012

Because "pad" is essentially based on the name of the application (Etherpad), it might even be best not to translate it at all, depending on the language.

McDutchie (talk)12:14, 29 November 2012

pad: Also called notepad writing pad a number of sheets of paper fastened together along one edge.

Siebrand13:31, 29 November 2012

In doubt, use the full denomination etherpad instead of pad.

Purodha Blissenbach (talk)18:43, 1 December 2012

I think it's okay to leave "pad" untranslated (although, as McDutchie pointed out, this of course depends on the language)

About EtherpadLite:Pad.settings/fr

2 french translations in the mysettings menu are too long and break the layout. The result isn't nice.

I think we can change:

  • pad.settings.rtlcheck
 * "Lire le contenu de la droite vers la gauche?"

by

 * "Contenu de droite à gauche" (the ? is not necessary)
  • pad.settings.fontType
 * "Type de police"

by

 * "Police"
Quenenni (talk)23:44, 2 April 2013

It seems to make sense. :) You can change it yourself after you follow the wizard at Special:FirstSteps.

Nemo (talk)07:40, 3 April 2013

I completed the wizard (5 days ago), but still wait for the validation email.. When do you think that will happen?

Quenenni (talk)22:34, 7 April 2013

Actually you were approved 5 minutes after your request, you can already translate. :)

Nemo (talk)05:41, 8 April 2013

Hello Nemo,

I (finally) made these 2 modifications. Today, I checked them, and I see that the first one came back to the previous translation (but not the second one)

I would lilke to know how things work. - Don't we receive an email when a proposition isn't accepted?

- I couldn't put anywhere an explanation of why I translated it like that. My translation is not the best, but at least, ut doesn't break the layout. Imo, it's much better this way. Is it possible to add an explanation somewhere?

- How do I know who refused my translation? (in order to discuss with him)

Thanks

Quenenni (talk)16:43, 8 May 2013

Hello Quenenni, the translations are accepted automatically, there is no vetting: the history will tell you if someone has reverted your change and why. If it doesn't, and it's overwritten by FuzzyBot, it means that something weird happened on the source code's side. You can probably just reapply your change, if someone disagrees they should be able to contact you here on this wiki.

About Etherpad Lite zh-hans and zh-hant translations

"zh-hans" (Chinese (Simplified)) and "zh-hant" (Chinese (Traditional)) translations don't work on a Etherpad Lite server.

This is because Etherpad Lite recognizes these languages as "zh" (Chinese) and because "zh.json" doesn't exist.

Shirayuki (talk)06:38, 11 February 2013

Best report this problem with the Etherpad Lite guys.

Siebrand07:48, 11 February 2013

Thanks. I've started a new issue on GitHub[1]. But it's hard to explain.

As an adjective. (en should be refined, prolly)

Looks like this may be a success message for both import as well as export. Advising to split.

Siebrand18:02, 20 November 2012

No, it's not. Afaik it's just used for imports...

mklehr (talk)14:26, 30 January 2013

What's the context of "monospace?"

tuliouel (talk)19:18, 9 January 2013

A font.

Strings not marked for translation

The following strings aren't marked for translation, hence they don't exist in a translation template:

  1. Please enter a name (This occurs when one tries to create a pad without a name)
  2. Heading, Normal, Heading 1 ... Heading 6 (These are shown in a dropdown menu on a pad view)
  3. Enter your name (Shown in "user view" when user hasn't set name)
  4. 1 unnamed author (Shown in timeslider when user hasn't set name)
  5. Help - What does each button do? (This and button tooltips in orange bubbles aren't translatable)
  6. Video Conferencing (Button tooltip not translatable)
  7. Clear authorship colors on entire document? (In a confirmation window after pressing "Remove author colours" button)
  8. Import now (Button text in Import/Export view)
  9. This revision is now marked as a saved revision (Shown when user presses "Star" button)
  10. Page View (Shown in Settings view)
  11. Loading... (Shown when a pad is loading)
  12. Import is not available. To enable import please install abiword (Shown in Import/Export view if admin hasn't installed the needed components)
Artnay (talk)13:21, 4 December 2012

I guess the code should be reviewed completely for hard coded strings, or is that how you did this?

Siebrand13:23, 4 December 2012

According to JohnMcLear it's a problem with plugins, which don't support l10n.

Nemo (talk)20:59, 4 December 2012

Then I guess it's about time they start doing that... Have a look at jQuery.i18n?

Siebrand21:35, 4 December 2012

I only did a quick etherpad-lite installation and reported untranslated strings visible to user. However, looking at https://github.com/ether/etherpad-lite/blob/master/src/templates/pad.html shows there are some hardcoded error/warning strings that most probably should have translations. Also the admin interface itself is untranslatable for most parts. And no, I did not do a through code review. Most of the strings I reported seem to be located in separate JS files, e.g.

  1. https://github.com/ether/etherpad-lite/blob/master/src/static/js/pad_userlist.js#L718
  2. https://github.com/ether/etherpad-lite/blob/master/src/static/js/pad_editbar.js#L172
  3. https://github.com/ether/etherpad-lite/blob/master/src/static/js/pad_savedrevs.js#L21
  4. https://github.com/ether/etherpad-lite/blob/master/src/static/js/pad_impexp.js#L109
  5. https://github.com/ether/etherpad-lite/blob/master/src/static/js/pad_impexp.js#L229
Artnay (talk)07:46, 5 December 2012

Looks like jQuery.i18n might be a very good match for Etherpad lite. Hope you can get the Etherpad lite devs to use it.

Siebrand15:44, 5 December 2012

Opened a corresponding issue on github: https://github.com/ether/etherpad-lite/issues/1263

I'm working on a refined l10n lib atm, though, so i guess this will have to wait a bit...

Thanks for reporting nonetheless!

mklehr (talk)18:55, 5 December 2012

Please consider *not* developing your own i18n lib if you can find anything remotely maintained. It is more complex than it looks...

Siebrand07:24, 6 December 2012

Some of the items in your list are indeed parts of plugins, so we can't do anything about that at the moment. "Loading..." is inevitable to be hardcoded in the template, though, because we have to display something even if no javascript is loaded yet (once the l10n lib is loaded this is replaced with the translated message!)

mklehr (talk)19:01, 5 December 2012

I think that all core strings to translate are marked now: https://github.com/ether/etherpad-lite/pull/1274

Joker (talk)04:34, 7 December 2012

I think we've fixed everything now. Thanks for your help!

mklehr (talk)16:25, 23 December 2012

This label has a colon. Shouldn't one further up have a colon, too?

Siebrand18:13, 20 November 2012

It has now.

Nike (talk)15:22, 21 November 2012

Please provide context.

Siebrand18:01, 20 November 2012

how can I provide context?

mklehr (talk)19:53, 20 November 2012

By adding "translations" in message documentation.

Siebrand20:04, 20 November 2012
